Earth Hour – Do The Hours Really Count
Earth Hour Do the hours Really Count
The electricity has just come back on. Funny but I was about to complain about the electricity or in other words complain about the electricity department where I live, Because for the past few weeks it goes on and off and it has been very erratic. It really makes me wonder how and why people don’t switch totally to solar.
I have always wondered why. But the modern day appliances such as fridges and air-conditioners that run on solar energy are very expensive and require a huge amount of batteries and plenty of ampere hours, And that’s maybe why people stick to the conventional electricity grid provided by the govt.
Alternative energy products are still way to high for the common man. There is allot of energy and time being spent by companies to come out with more energy efficient batteries and everyday electrical appliances. I live in south India where the summers are really hot and the winters – actually we don’t have winters but we have the monsoon rains. The shorter rains are called the summer monsoon. Well to get back to my point about alternative energy usage down in south India. We rely mostly on turbine electricity so when the monsoons are here we have allot of energy but our electrical infrastructure is so out dated that we have many power shortages in the monsoon season. And in summer when the huge reservoirs start to dry up we again have current cuts at least twice a day or more. So using alternative energy would be a good idea if it was financially viable.
Earth Hour Unlimited
I always wonder when the Earth Hour happenings comes around each year, where people and cities across the globe turn off their lights and all electrical gadgets for an hour to show solidarity to the environment. Here in south India we are forced to have Earth Hour each day and every day of the year.
This daily dose of Earth Hour that is thrust on to the public can and still does make one think about going into alternative energy sources. An idea that would make govt on the front foot would be that each house hold or electricity meter that is installed would have also a meter showing how many hours and average amount of wattage’s that the consumer looses when they turn off the electricity and the govt would either subsidize the end user or better still they would give discounts on alternative energy products such as solar panels. This would insure that he electrical company would work at optimum levels. I have had episodes of not having electricity from the grid off for more then five days. Within the next few years when alternative energy products start taking center stage the prices will come down drastically, then the common man can think alternative. But until then the normal grid electricity is all the masses can afford and they have to live with the unlimited Earth Hour. Day in and day out.
Daily Dose of Earth Hour
As I am finishing this article the local earth hour or rather earth hours has ended. For this month we have two power shedding times. 8 AM till 10 AM and then a few hours at night.
